Ramnagar is a small town in the Nainital District of Uttarakhand, India. Ramnagar is located approximately 75 Kms from Nainital, 65 Kms from Haldwani, 90 Kms from Moradabad, 24 Kms from Kashipur, 90 Kms from Rudrapur. Ramnagar is nearest town and bus and railway station to the Jim Corbett National Park, the oldest National park and a famous tourist destination of India. Garjiya Devi Temple and (Godess Sita) Maa Seeta Bani Temple located nearby also attract many visitors. How to Reach Ramnagar and Corbett National Park BY BUS

Ramnagar is well connected to other major cities of the country via regular buses- Jaipur, Agra, Dehradun, Moradabad, Delhi, Lucknow, Gurgaon etc. Ramnagar Bus Station and Ramnagar Railway station are not very far-off, the app distance between two is appx 1KM. There are regular buses from Ramnagar to Nainital and Kashipur. National Highway 121 which starts from Kashipur that takes you to Uttarakhand passes through Ramnagar. The Ramnagar is also entry point to Badrinath shrine and one can also reach Dehradun and Haridwar from here.

History of Ramnagar

The ancient name of Ramnagar was Ahichhatra the capital of Northern Panchala of Mahabharata times. The Ramnagar town was established and settled by Commissioner H. Ramsay in 1856-1884. During the British Rule tea gardens were developed in Ramnagar and in the nearby villages in Uttarakhand. But these tea gardens have been closed since a long time. The nearby Jim Corbett National Park is named after the hunter turned conservationist Edward James Jim Corbett who played a key role in its establishment. Corbett National Park is the oldest national park in India and attracts lots of tourists from India and other countries.

Jim Corbett National Park

Ramnagar is the Gateway to the Jim Corbett National Park - Jim Corbett Wildlife Sanctuary - The Land of Tigers. Jim Corbett National Park is 51 km north of Ramnagar. Established in 1936 as the Hailey National Park, Corbett National Park is the oldest and one of the most sought after national parks in India. It is India's first sanctuary to come under Project Tiger. The park was named after the hunter-naturalist turned author and photographer, Jim Corbett who lived in the region and contributed in setting up this park. Visitors can move about in vehicles inside the park area after making entries at the respective gates. Tourists can drive their own cars inside Corbett or can hire vehicles from Ramnagar. Permits are necessary for entering Corbett Tiger Reserve. For day visits, permits are obtained at the respective Entry Gates. However, permits for night halts are issued at the CTR Reception Office at Ramnagar. Other places worth visiting in the region are the Crocodile Pool, Dhikala Machaan, Getheryo Library (Dhikala), Corbett Museum (Dhangadi gate), Corbett Falls. There is a booking counter where bookings can be made for the guest house and Jeep Safari.

Garjiya Devi Temple

Garjiya Devi Temple is situated on a huge rock amid the River Kosi, 14 km from Ramnagar. It is a very famous temple and a large fair is organized at this Shakti shrine on Kartik Purnima that draws a large number of pilgrims and devotees. It is said that a couple has to go in that temple to take the blessings of the Garjiya Maa who is the presiding deity.

Seeta Bani Temple

Seeta Bani Temple is dedicated to (Godess Sita) Devi Sita, consort of Lord Rama. It is believed that she entered into the lap of Mother Earth here. Every year, a fair is held here during Ramanavami. It is located at a distance of 20 km from Ramnagar.

Near by Locations

Villages near Ramnagar are Patkot, Kotabagh, Bhalaun, Amgarhi, Perumadara, Tanda, Haldua, Bohrakot, Dhikala and Mohan. There is a check post for Kumaun and Garhwal from Mohan, there are two ways which lead to Garhwal and Kumaon for places like Ranikhet, Betalghat, Chaukhutia and the border Dharchula for Garhwal, Dhomakot, Maithanaghat and Tihri which is at a distance of 450 km from Ramnagar. Chaukhutia, Masi are nearly 125 km, 113 km respectively from Ramnagar.
