The Gairal Forest Rest House has two different blocks that have rooms for guest accommodation. The Old FRH was established in 1903 during the British era. And the New FRH which has been established recently.
Old Forest Rest House
The Old Forest Rest House block of Gairal FRH has two interconnected rooms. A common dining space connects these rooms opening in different directions. One of the rooms offers a river view. The opposite room offers a forest view. Each of these rooms has a private washroom attached with western fittings and a 24/7 running water facility. Mirrors, western toilets, a wash basin, a bucket, and a mug will be provided in the washrooms. Towels and toiletries will be available at guest service. It is also advisable to carry sunscreen and moisturizers on your trip.
There is an adjoining compound too where the forest department staff stays. To keep a tab on the safety of tourists visiting the staff has been deployed. This FRH over the years has hosted all kinds of travelers ranging from solo travelers to families to groups. The Gairal FRH is a place for travelers who are keen on exploring the wilderness.
New Forest Rest House
The New Forest Rest House block has a total of four double rooms and an eight-bed dormitory. Every room has a twin bed. All these rooms are access friendly as they have been constructed on the ground floor only. These designs are well-planned to ensure the maximum safety of the guests.
An extra bed is available for any third guest accompanying. The rooms are big and airy enough. You won’t find ACs or fans in the rooms. In fact, electricity is supplied for limited hours in the evening by solar-powered inverters. However, the availability of electricity is contingent on ample sunlight. Therefore it is advisable for you to carry your power banks and extension boards with you. Additionally, the doors and windows will be well-covered with mosquito nets.
Canteen And Food
The Gairal Forest Rest House has a canteen and a dining room. The dining room can accommodate 10-15 people comfortably. The guests have an option of having breakfast or lunch in the open area that is next to the dining room. The guests can also enjoy a spectacular view of the Ramganga river and Corbett National park. Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam runs the canteen and only vegetarian meals are available here. Generally, tea, coffee, bread, butter, jam, and parathas are available for breakfast. For lunch and dinner one vegetable dish, lentils, rice, and roti would be available. The canteen also takes orders during the day and you can get noodles, an omelet with tea, and coffee at reasonable prices. There is a strict prohibition on the consumption of meat and liquor at the Gairal FRH.
How To Reach
Not just that, the availability of rich conveyance options makes Gairal Forest Rest House an absolute favorite among tourists. One has to enter from the Dhangarghi gate of the Jim Corbett National Park and pass through beautiful landscapes that cover river beds and sal trees. This beauty will stretch for 17 kilometers. Then you reach Gairal forest Rest House where you will witness a variety of birds visiting this rest house.
The nearest major railway station is located in Ramnagar which is around 21 km from the rest house. Also, regular buses function between all the major cities and Ramnagar. The nearest airports are available at Pantnagar, Delhi, and Dehradun which are very close to Ramnagar. There is a functioning railway station at Ramnagar too, functioning under the station code (RMR). You can also use your cab or personnel vehicle up till the entry gate of Dhikala (Dhangarei gate).
